| Sahjeevan family resource centre
An experiment with over 125 families of employees at an engineering industry based in Pune, India. It recognizes that the nature and the vitality of the child’s physical, emotional, mental, intellectual and spiritual development is influenced by parents, families, the community, the educational environment…. We believe that the influences in the development of the child begin as early as pregnancy and that the early childhood years are a particularly critical period for growth at all levels of the personality. It involves collaborating with individuals and organisations, with innovative thoughts, ideas and experiences related to protecting and fostering health, happiness and creativity of children and youth.
We intend to provide a bank of resources for different stages of the child’s development. These will be shared with parents, caregivers and all those who touch the life of the child. We will maintain a data base through feedback of participants and intend to share our models with assistance in their replication.
PRENATAL/BIRTH: foster health of the mother and child
EARLY MONTHS/ PRE SCHOOL YEARS: share best practices in parenting to optimize early brain development and nurture emotional health and social skills
TEENAGE YEARS: address issues at their source, emphasizing preventive measures over remedial.
YOUTH: create a platform for a dialogue with young people on innovative thoughts and ideas for social change…and to protect, foster the creative imagination, self-confidence, esteem and happiness of the younger members of the community for a compassionate community and world.
BALA MANDIR RESEARCH FOUNDATION is our primary partner in this experiment. We have their sanction to use and train others on their tool, The Learning to Play calendar developed by the Hincks Dellcrest Children's Centre, Toronto, Canada, and implemented by BMRF in India, to share good parenting techniques, which are crucial to the wholeness of a child’s development. The calendar, is currently available for the age groups Birth-3 yrs, 3-6 yrs in English, Tamil, Kannada, Punjabi, Urdu along with a User Manual and soon in other Indian languages:Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam and Telugu.
Through the use of visuals developed by BMRF, on parenting adolescents and Parental Readiness, interactive discussions will be conducted on effective parenting practices and the holistic development of adolescents. Issues relate to encouraging creativity, assertion of their rights, handling peer pressure, parental expectations, academic pressures, attitudinal barriers ...
BMRF supports this initiative through awareness programs with parents and families and through training potential trainers to widen the reach of the program.
